During last year's Conversion Jam, Conversionista presented the Conversion Hero of the Year award for the first time. This prestigious award aims to spotlight exceptional individuals who have dedicated themselves to achieving remarkable success in their experimentation programs and who generously share their CRO expertise.

The competition saw many skilled professionals fighting for the title, each a true ambassador for CRO. To celebrate their achievements and inspire our audience, we will be conducting an interview series with all the nominees throughout the fall of 2024. This interview features Alexander Tøgard, Senior Consultant at WebMentor AS.

How does it feel to be one of the six nominees for the Conversion Hero of the Year award - the very first one at that?

It was both surprising and pleasant! Especially since I was nominated in the first year the award was organized. I take it as a sign that I am doing good work, as I must have been one of the first people the jury thought of. Additionally, I made it from nomination to the final round! It warms a nerd's heart, so I felt like I won anyway!

How did you experience the day overall? Is there anything specific you’re taking away from Conversion Jam 2023?

The day was excellent, with a high level of content and great opportunities to socialize with like-minded individuals. I particularly liked April Dunford's idea that we need to stop trying to turn gray stones into gold and the importance of positioning the products we market. In recent years, our expertise (CROs) has started to gain more respect at the C-level in many companies, which means more resources are being allocated to building multidisciplinary teams and fostering a healthy culture for experimentation and data-driven work.

Additionally, it was the first time I heard the reasons for my nomination, which was quite touching. So, that was definitely the highlight of the day for me!

What do you believe is the key to your own success, and what motivates you in your daily life?

Curiosity! It's the thirst for knowledge that drives me and has led me to where I am today. I have a handful of great clients to whom I deliver services, both strategically and operationally. We grow in symbiosis, based on mutual respect for each other's skills and experience.

My best tip is to involve as many people as possible in your projects, both up and down the hierarchy of the company you are working with.

How does your team work? Is there something that sets you apart from others?

My best tip is to involve as many people as possible in your projects, both up and down the hierarchy of the company you are working with. This way, you gain acceptance for the time and resources you need, as well as many supporters who can help you achieve your goals. Many players in the industry overlook the importance of truly getting to know both the company and the end user as well as possible.

Lastly, how do you manage to stay updated and relevant, and where do you draw inspiration from yourself?

When you let your curiosity and sense of adventure drive you, and you are open to new ideas and strategies, you find inspiration everywhere! I can get fantastic ideas while playing with my children, watching how a stranger on the train navigates a website, or dangling 10 meters above the ground on a ski lift.

But above all, it is through interaction with great colleagues, partners, and suppliers that I learn the most. I also subscribe to a handful of newsletters from industry leaders and participate in conferences and webinars to stay attuned to what is happening.
