How to get a “Cancel Load” button in Google Analytics

Kajsa Hedqvist

Sometimes you want to cancel loading processes in Google Analytics because they take sooo long. We decided to take matters into our own hands and create the golden button. Here’s how you can get one for yourself!

We’ve all experienced the irritation that arises when you’re loading views in Google Analytics. It happens when you’re creating or choosing new segments, adding rows to the All Pages report or when you’re simply changing the time span…

That’s when the waiting begins. Waiting for Google Analytics to process your request. It can be fast, but sometimes it’s not very fast. When it takes time (especially when you noticed that you did something wrong) you want to be able to cancel ASAP. But how?

Where is the cancel button?

Sometimes things end up wrong even for Google when it comes to improving the user experience, so we decided to solve the problem ourselves.

So how did we do it?

We started by Googling (a lot) and sent angry emails to Google Analytics, but nothing happened. So we realized that it was up to us. Or well, not really to us. We posted our problem to upwork.com and got help from Utkarsh Kukreti, an Indian developer who created our cancel button for a reasonable amount and saved our lives in the process. Lots of credit and a big thank you to Utkarsh!

Do you also feel that you want to save time and improve the usability in Google Analytics?

The code for the cancel button is available at the bottom of this post.

At Conversionista, we use this button daily. However, please note that it is in BETA MODE. If it doesn’t work as advertised (sometimes we’ve had two buttons instead of one for example) you’ll just have to learn to live with it, or fix it yourselves.

  1. Download the Chrome plug in Tampermonkey
  2. Paste the code available at the bottom of this post underneath “Create new script”
    Add Tampermonkey new script
  3. Save (don’t mind the other buttons and options)
    Save Tampermonkey script
  4. Open Analytics, and voila!
    Cancel button

(If you’ve already installed Tampermonkey, the button is only one click away)

Thumbs up!
This is a cancel button that will change your life!
